For Alaska’s earliest prospectors the work was grueling and fraught with countless risks to life and limb, but despite the risks not all the work was done by men.  Blanche Cascaden was as tough as any miner; an outspoken advocate for struggling miners; and helped instigate some the territory’s first mining laws.  This beauty was likewise at the fore in pushing to get a road built between Fairbanks and Livengood, and active in community and civic affairs.
